Grief by Kat

Grief, so much the vampire
robbing of us energy
and yet at each bitter bite
we embrace it more fully
hold it closer, keep it dear
loathe to let it go
for fear we might forget
how we once lived
before its tomb-cold embrace

To dwell with grief
is to live forever in midnight
heart-sight heightened
to weaker moments
earthly lives we wish to claim
but in terror of the sun,
where all our ashy thoughts
will be exposed
and future winds
might carry us away

In time one must
stop placing so much faith
in the gloom of night
for no matter our wish,
no matter how we clutch
that crypt angel to our pulse
it is true
that those who walk the earth,
even those who profoundly ache
from the loss of life,
eventually meet the dawn.

  1. Kat, i haven't read this before, it was a great poem. I would like to see more poems here and maybe a visit to the group some time. df
